Amen!! I feel like everyone in my life right now has a similar sentiment. We're all a little weary with the information overload of 24/7 scroll time. Let 2025 be the year of the hobby!
I completely agree and absolutely love this idea. While it’s not quite the same as collecting in a traditional sense, it definitely feels adjacent—almost like curating little moments. I recently started making mini magnets for my fridge with my family during the holidays, each one tied to a specific memory from our time together. It’s become a small but meaningful tradition, and I love watching the collection grow on our fridges year after year.🫶🏻 love this!
Mine are in no way as cute as the ones you’ll find on Pinterest, but we even carved numbers into the bottom of ours so as the holidays go by, we always know which was our first one and so on as we get better and better at modeling them haha.
"Adult hobbies, to me, are little vacations from reality." YES YES YES WE ALL NEED MORE HOBBIES! We need things outside of work and the admin of life to keep our lives feeling full and abundant. I just had a conversation with a friend yesterday who expressed her frustration with friendships that only complain about work and talk about the people they are dating. It's soooo much more interesting to have hobbies (I like to call them extracurriculars) and do little side quests that we do only for the sake of curiosity and enjoyment.
Just saved all these places. Definitely want to try Happy Medium and more crafty creations soon, as a digital artist I don’t get hands on as much as I would like ✨
I just finished The Artist Way and the book actually reminded me how much I loved to do crafts as child! Not specifically painting or drawing, but straight up using construction paper and markers as we did in elementary and middle school-
Right now, I am really into making popup cards and am using Pinterest for ideas to try~
Yay for this list (and the Happy Medium rec -- love that place)!
If you haven't already been, a good place for stationery supplies is the Kinokuniya bookstore by Bryant Park - lots of stationery, Japanese washi tape, calligraphy pens, etc. It's also right next to a bead supply store, if making friendship bracelets or other jewelry is your hobby too :)

Definitely, I think it's no coincidence that we're seeing everyone crave this so much!
I just ordered a junk journal from the queen herself Martina Martin - cannot wait for it to arrive and get started!! Hobbies are the best :)
Oooh enjoy!

Ordered a latch hook sunflower rug kit to for my inner child to enjoy making and my cat to snuggle on
Me with like 20 hobbies :) not knowing what other hobby to pickup lol
Obsessed with hobbies. Was just writing to a friend about this and how much I love my pottery class and mahjong group!
The snail mail examples you have are so inspiring! I have a long distance friend who is now going to receive one of my own soon. Thank you! 🤎
I told my neighbor I need a better hobby. Thwarting criminals and petty crime at the apartment complex cannot continue indefinitely.
i spent all of january collecting junk so i can start junk journaling! also, that martini watercolor is so good!?!?
tysm! i'm glad you're collecting junk :)
I love love love this!! All of my friends and I are feeling similarly -- tired of consumption with no production!
Amen to this
