There are few places that feel as instantly familiar—and endlessly surprising—as Mexico City. For me, it’s a home away from home, the kind of place I daydream about living in someday, maybe finally becoming fluent in Spanish. I’ve been five times now, and each visit feels like opening a new chapter: leafy parks I’d never wandered through before, art-filled corners of neighborhoods I thought I knew, an ever-present hum of creativity that seems to spill out of every café and courtyard. It’s sexy, it’s lush, it’s perfect.

Mexico City has a rhythm that’s slower than New York, but it’s still just as vibrant and captivating. It invites you to take your time and to notice things: the pink bougainvillea enveloping Parque Mexico, the layered histories in its architecture, the dog to person ratio (there are TONS of dogs here and they’re all perfect) and the way the city seems to unfold best when you’re on foot.

Which is exactly what this guide is built around—walking. It’s an ambitious three day itinerary that prioritizes movement over checklists, with a lot of ground to cover (and yes, comfortable shoes are non-negotiable). But it’s worth it, even if you end up with a few blisters. Because this is a city best experienced one step, one snack, one perfect corner at a time.
